A journey through the living substance of the Canticle. It does not narrate its verses, quote them or place them on stage: it lets them act like an echo, like a generative principle. The Canticle is the starting point: not as text, but as a gaze. The gaze that sees nature not as background, but as sister. The gaze that recognises within light, wind and human fragility the same vibration, the same belonging. From this gaze emerges a path that crosses frost, suspension, awakening, the rush of light, the wound of history, meditation and fullness. Each piece is a threshold. Each gesture is a passage. Each sound is a fragment of a Canticle that is never spoken, but which manifests itself in the way the musicians breathe, move, look at one another and listen to one another. The Canticle is not quoted: it is recreated. It is not represented: it is traversed. It is not a text of the past: it is a question of the present. And thus the quartet becomes a small community in motion, a body that transforms itself, opens itself, wounds itself and recomposes itself. A community that seeks light not as escape, but as the possibility of seeing more clearly.
San Francesco
Saint Francis of Assisi
Francesco 800 is a one-act work that invites us to recognise, within this sonic and physical journey, the same wonder that runs through the Canticle: the wonder of being part of something that lives, changes and breathes with us.
Franz von Assisi – Hermann Hesse
Franz von Assisi by Hermann Hesse
It is no coincidence that this journey reaches Gentilino, where the poet and writer Hermann Hesse rests, who in 1904 wrote Franz von Assisi and who chose to spend his final years in Montagnola. Toward an essential simplicity. Toward a direct relationship with nature. Toward the essence of the soul, toward what remains invisible, where a place of silence and listening allows us to continue questioning the world.
