On 19 June at 8.30 pm, the Church of Santi Quirico e Giulitta in Melide will host the opening concert of the fiftieth edition of Ceresio Estate, held on the birthday and in the birthplace of Alice Moretti, one of the most significant figures in the cultural and civic life of Ticino and a key contributor to the festival’s development.
Born in Melide on 19 June 1921, teacher, pioneer of women’s rights and one of the first eleven women elected to the Ticino Grand Council in 1971, Alice Moretti played a decisive role in the growth of Ceresio Estate. In 1978, she recognised the value of Lucienne Rosset’s proposal to expand the experience of Carona Estate beyond the boundaries of the village, helping to create the festival that continues to bring music to the historic locations around Lake Lugano.
At the organ will be Svetlana Berezhnaya, an internationally acclaimed performer who has appeared in leading concert halls and cathedrals across Europe, the Americas and Asia, in a programme devoted to Johann Sebastian Bach, Baldassare Galuppi, Roberto Di Marino and Antonio Vivaldi.
